I can not imagine having a problem with the stock shifter. They are freaking tanks. I have a write up in Auto-FAQ about making your own short shifter with your own OEM one. They few I have done for people have all been like mine - pretty much a huge chunk of steel. I have never been able to hurt one of them or heard many problems with them.
